In the sweltering heat, under an overcast sky, Munni could tell she had arrived—the same dusty road, the scant vegetation, and the barren hills all around.

She recalled walking miles with her sister, carrying water, pausing only to wave at a passing train, dreaming of going to school one day.

That was before they moved to the city to live with their uncle after the parents passed away. How quickly the years had flown!

Suddenly, the sky roared. Munni looked up. As raindrops fell on her parched soul, it filled her with longing—for a home that never was.
